Microsoft discontinued support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 effective January 14, 2020. Technical assistance and software and security updates are no longer available.

The Risk: Your entire production system could be at risk. 

Your Options: If your AVEVA | Wonderware application is running on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you’ll need to upgrade your Wonderware software as well as your Microsoft software. [See below for current compatibility details.]
  • If you are an AVEVA Customer First software maintenance support subscriber, you can contact us to request a license to run latest version of Wonderware software (2017 Update 3 SP1 as of this writing).
  • If your support subscription has lapsed, contact us to review your options to obtain the latest licensing. Generally, you will be entitled to a 50% discount off the price of the current version. Additionally, new programs from AVEVA like Flex Subscription can provide a lower initial cost, access to enhanced features such as unlimited I/O and visualization clients and flexible access to the entire AVEVA portfolio.

Q. Will your Windows 7 PC stop working at some point in time?
A. No, it will continue to run

Q. Can I get any updates to my Windows 7 computers from InSource?
A. No updates will be provided by Microsoft

Q. Can I run Windows 7 on updated PC hardware?
A. Maybe, there are issues with motherboards, processors and peripheral drivers with Win7, not a great idea.

Q. Can I upgrade my Windows 7 to Windows 10 on the same PC hardware?
A. Maybe, but for industrial applications, we suggest new hardware and especially for HMI interfaces, move to Remote Desktop Services and thin clients if possible.

Q. Can I upgrade my Wonderware applications to the latest versions on Windows 7?
A. No, the latest version to support Windows 7 is 2014 R2 SP1 P02 (which has entered a low priority “Mature Support” phase). Note that AVEVA/Wonderware version 2020 is due to be released in first quarter 2020 and is not supported on Windows 7.
